A custom LearnDash add-on that lets students create, customize, and practice quizzes themselves without any backend access — built by AR Webcrafts.
A professional training platform came to us with an ambitious goal: they wanted their students to take a more active role in their own learning. Instead of only taking quizzes created by instructors, students would be able to build their own practice quizzes — choosing topics, selecting question categories, and setting the number of questions themselves. LearnDash had no frontend quiz creation feature at all, so AR Webcrafts built one from scratch.
LearnDash quiz creation is locked entirely in the WordPress backend — students have no way to create or practice quizzes on their own
Students who wanted extra practice had to wait for instructors to create additional quiz content
There was no self-directed learning tool — students were passive consumers of content rather than active participants
The platform’s existing question bank was underused because only admins could build quizzes from it
Instructors wanted to offer randomized, category-based practice sessions without manually building a new quiz for every possible topic combination
"Our students kept asking for more practice material but we didn't have the time to keep building quizzes. This add-on turned our entire question bank into a self-service study tool. Students love it — they build their own practice sessions and come to exams far more prepared."
AR Webcrafts built a fully frontend quiz creation system powered by a simple shortcode that admins place on any page. Students visit the page, select the question categories they want to focus on, choose the number of questions per category, and generate a fully functional practice quiz — instantly, without any backend access. The add-on connects directly to the platform’s existing LearnDash question bank, so all existing questions are immediately available for student-generated quizzes. For platforms already using the LearnDash Multi Question Categories add-on (Product #3), the two work together seamlessly — students can pull randomized questions from any multi-category setup. Unique question types and per-question time limits are also fully supported.
Students went from passive quiz-takers to active learners who could drill into their weakest areas on demand. The platform’s existing question bank — which previously required admin involvement to use — became a self-service practice tool available 24/7. Instructor workload for creating extra practice content dropped significantly, while student engagement and course completion scores improved because students had the tools to study at their own pace.
